Troubleshooting

When a kiosk{ed} application is launched, a series of startup checks are performed to verify a device meets all specifications. Error messages and descriptions are displayed if there are any issues. Here is an example error message.

When possible, you can fix the issue and click Retry. This table summarizes the error messages that can occur during the startup check.

Message Description Resolution
Unsupported Hardware This device does not meet the minimum hardware requirements for taking a test. You must have a processor that operates at {value} {unit} or higher. Upgrade the device to the minimum processor specification.
Unsupported Hardware This device does not meet the minimum hardware requirements for taking a test. You must have at least {value} {unit} of memory. Upgrade the device to the minimum processor specification.
Low Disk Space This device does not meet the minimum hardware requirements for taking a test. You must have at least {value} {unit} of free disk space available. Free disk space or increase disk capacity.
Virtual OS A virtual operating system appears to be running on your machine. Virtualized OS’s are not able to be properly secured for testing and are therefore not allowed. Install a supported OS on the device.
Unsupported Operating System Your current operating system version is not supported by this application. Please upgrade to {OS version} or later. Upgrade operating system to the level specified in the message.
Multiple Displays Detected It appears that this machine has more than one display connected. Please unplug all but one monitor and try again. Unplug additional monitors or disable monitor sharing and turn monitor off.
Display Resolution This application requires a resolution of 1024x768 or greater. Please adjust the display settings and try again. Adjust the display settings on the device.
Display Color Depth This application requires 32-bit color. Please adjust the display settings and try again. Adjust the display settings on the device.
Unsupported Device Unfortunately this device has not been approved for testing. Only iPads with a screen size larger than 9 inches are approved for use in online testing. Use a different device.
Unsupported iOS Version This device must be upgraded to iOS {version} or later before it can be used for testing. Upgrade operating system to the level specified in the message.
Device Unplugged This device must be connected to a power source to continue testing. Your test will resume after you plug in the device. Plug in your device.
Kiosk Mode Required This application must be launched as a kiosk application. Contact the proctor.
Low Battery Your device is not plugged in or fully charged. It is recommended that you connect the device to a power source before continuing. Plug in your device.
Network Issue Unable to connect to the online testing server. Tap Retry and contact your proctor if you continue to have problems. Contact the proctor if you cannot connect.
Unsupported Locking Mode This device has been locked using an unsupported method. Disable Guided Access and Single App Mode before launching the online testing application. Clear unsupported method and relaunch testing application.
Lock Failure The device failed to enter into locked mode. Be sure to select Yes when you are prompted to Confirm App Self-Lock. Contact the proctor if App Self-Lock fails.
Unlock Failure Unable to unlock this device. Contact your proctor for instructions. Contact the proctor.
